He lives at Balbec?” crooned the Baron in a tone so far from interrogatory that it is regrettable that the written language does not possess a sign other than the question mark to end such apparently unquestioning remarks. It is true that such a sign would be of little use except to M. de Charlus.

I'm convinced that the best solutions are often the ones that are counterintuitive - that challenge conventional thinking - and end in breakthroughs. It is always easier to do things the same old way...why change? To fight this, keep your dissatisfaction index high and break with tradition. Don't be too quick to accept the way things are being done. Question whether there's a better way. Very often you will find that once you make this break from the usual way - and incidentally, this is probably the hardest thing to do—and start on a new track your horizon of new thoughts immediately broadens. New ideas flow in like water. Always keep your interests broad - don't let your mind be stunted by a limited view.

If not me, then who will stand for the right of all people to lead lives of joy and dignity? If not me, then who will stand for facts and reason and learning and truth? If not me, then who will stand for kindness? If not me, then who will stand for honesty? If not me, then who will stand for generosity? If not me, then who will stand for equality and justice?

Do you love me?” Diana asked. Caine’s eyes widened. She could actually see him twitch. Like a startled animal. Like a rabbit who had just heard a fox. “It’s a yes or no question,” Diana said acidly. “But I’ll accept a nod or a shake of the head or an incoherent grunt.” “I . . . I don’t know what you mean by that,” Caine said lamely. “When I jumped off the cliff, you saved me even though it meant letting Sanjit and the others escape.” “You didn’t give me much choice,” Caine said peevishly. “You had a choice. You wanted to destroy them.” “Okay.” “Why did you make that choice?” Caine swallowed and seemed to find his palms sweaty since he rubbed them on his sides. Diana walked to the door. She unlocked it and held it open. “Go away,” she said. “Come back when you figure out your answer.

Though the Drosophilia ovary is a structure with a different purpose - one designed to make fly eggs, not blood cells - the ovary, and specifically, the substructure of the ovary known as the 'germarium', have similarities with what was described for hematopoiesis. The organization of the cells that make up the germarium can be likened to a knitted winter hat pulled over the wearer's head. The extreme end - the pompon - comprises a set of cells called the 'terminal filament' cells; the top of the hat is formed by anterior 'cap' cells; and the sides of the hat are made up of more lateral 'inner sheath' cells that surround the GSCs themselves. Within this small cluster of cells, precise positions matter. When a GSC divides in two, one cell remains in contact with the cap cells and the other loses this immediate proximity. The cell that remains in contact with cap cells remains a GSC. The more posterior-positioned cell, by contrast, goes on to form an egg. A similar setup exists in the Drosophilia testes, in which 'hub' cells sit immediately anterior to the male GSCs. A question arises, what is special about the proximity of a GSC to a cap cell that keeps one daughter of a recently divided stem a stem cell while its sister goes on to form an egg?

If God's love encompasses the whole world and if everyone who does not believe in him will perish, then surely this question needs to be asked: When, after two thousand years, does God's plan kick in for the billion people he 'so loves' in China? Or for the 840 million in India? Or the millions in Japan, Afghanistan, Siberia, Egypt, Burma ·.. and on and on? Why would a God who 'so loved the world' reveal his message only to a tiny minority of the people on earth, leaving the majority in ignorance? Is it possible to believe that the Father of all Mankind would select as his Chosen People a small Middle Eastern nation, Israel, reveal His will exclusively to them, fight alongside them in their battles to survive, and only after their failure to reach out to any other group, update His plan for the world's salvation by sending His 'only begotten son,' not to the world but, once again, exclusively to Israel?
