I have grown to understand this about life: true life is just one and whoever misses it never sees the true life; great and true chance in life comes just once in a lifetime and anyone who misses it always seek for chances that are not all that the true one, except the one God can provide; true God is one and any person who serves two doesn’t really know how to truly serve the true one; true love in the heart is just one and anyone who has two shall only have a conflict with the true one; true understanding is just one and anyone who has two is not far away from misunderstanding; what is truly genuine is always the genuine one and anything else is just the opposite of the genuine one; true meaning of life is one and anyone who misses it shall never live a life that truly means life!

I do like Canadian poetry. Christian Bök, Anne Carson, Carmine Starnino, and Don McKay are a few of the Canadian poets whose work has been important to me. But I'm not sure that I do see poetry as a world apart. Some of my metaphors are based in the fantastic, but I try to be true to life as I understand it. That understanding is affected by my Canadianness, my Americanness, my whiteness, my gender, my age, my education, my experience...everything about me affects my view of reality. But I try to wrestle against those partialities, not embrace them.

Philip Glass, like [Virginia] Woolf, is more interested in that which continues than he is in that which begins, climaxes, and ends... Glass and Woolf have both broken out of the traditional realm of the story, whether literary or musical, in favor of something more meditative, less neatly delineated, and more true to life. For me, Glass [finds] in three repeated notes something of [a] rapture of sameness.

When I was a teenager, for the most part, I had a really great, easy relationship with my mom, but there are those occasional mom/daughter things that are unavoidable. That's what makes it more upsetting and more true to life. We have great moments, and then we have terrible moments as well.
